Parmenides of Elea (5th century BC) was an ancient Greek philosopher born in Elea, a Greek city on the southern coast of Italy. He is reported to keep around been the student of Xenophanes. He is one of a virtually all important of the pre-Socratic philosophers. He argued that a each-day perception of reality of the physical world (the "Way of Seeming") is mistaken, & that a reality of the globe is '1 Existence' (a "Way of Truth"): an unchanging, ungenerated, undestroyable whole.
He was a founder of the Eleatic school, which also involved Zeno of Elea and Melissus.
Whilst 1 says that Parmenides "argued" something, a single just can not assume "argue" in the modern feel. Parmenides was the prophet, magician and healer (just rather Pythagoras, Empedocles & many others), and his philosophy is presented around verse, through mythology and obscure mystic visions. A philosophy he argued was, he says, given to him per Goddess of the underworld (Tartaros):
Under 'way of seeming', in the equivalent act, he placed retired the contrastive however further conventional review of the globe, thereby becoming an early exponent of the duality of appearance and reality. For him & his pupils a phenomena of movement and vary come only appearances of the electrostatic, eternal reality.
Around Plato's dialogue Parmenides the Eleatic philosopher and Socrates argue about dialectic. In the Theaetetus, Socrates says that Parmenides alone among the caring (Protagoras, Heraclitus, Empedocles, Epicharmus, and Homer) denied that everything is vary & motion.
Metaphysics
His function In Nature exists only within fragments & is manufactured higher of 2 area besides as an introductory discourse. A Way of Truth discusses that which is very & a Way of Seeming discusses that which is illusive. Under a Way of Truth, he stated that there are deuce shipway of inquiry: that it is, that it ''isDoes'nt. He said that a latter argument is never workable because nothing could not be'' & become an object of speech & thought:
Moreover, he implied that it may not own "come into being" because "nothing comes from nothing."
What is more he argued that movement was impossible because it takes moving into "the void", & Parmenides identified "the void" by owning nothing, & so (by definition) it doesn't survive. That which does survive is The Parmenidean 1 which is dateless, uniform, & unchanging:
